LGBTQ+ Affirming Therapy
You shouldn't have to spend your sessions catching your therapist up on what it means to be in LGBTQ+ community. As a queer-identified therapist, I work with LGBTQ+ adults to provide knowledgable support.
How We'll Work Together
My approach is direct and compassionate. We'll tackle hard questions and I don't treat the ways you've learned to cope as problems to be fixed.

A lot of what brings people here are patterns that developed for good reasons. Ways of moving through the world that made sense given what you were working with. The work is about understanding where those patterns came from and figuring out which ones are still useful and which ones aren't.

I use IFS as a primary lens, which means I'm less interested in the surface behavior and more interested in what's underneath it. What the anxiety is protecting. Why certain situations keep producing the same reaction even when you can see it happening.

Context matters too. I welcome exploration of the stress of being queer in a hostile world, experiences of family rejection or religious harm, navigating systems that weren't built for you.Â
Who I Work With
I work with gay, lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, queer, asexual, transgender, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming adults. Whether you feel rooted in your identity and community, or still figuring things out, you are welcome.

For those undergoing medical transition, I can work with you to provide relevant support letters.
What Brings People Here
We might work on specific challenges related to your identity and experiences, or simply focus on your life from a perspective that doesn't require translation. Some topics that I frequently work with clients on include:
Coming out
I work with clients navigating coming out, no matter the stage of life that's happening. First time, or in a new context. To a new community, a new partner, or family.
Non-traditional relationships
Alternative relationship structures like polyamory and open relationships aren't the problem, so having a therapist who gets that can allow your work to go deeper without having to explain yourself.
Internalized shame
I support clients with approaching and bringing healing to deep wounds that come from growing up queer in a straight world.Â
Identity exploration
Not everyone comes in with a clear sense of their identity. Some people are mid-discovery. That's a fine place to start.
Family estrangement
Family that responded badly, or family that is trying but still doesn't get it. Both of those come with their own kind of grief.
Experiences of Discrimination
Experiences of harm connected to being queer. From institutions, from religious contexts, from family, or from strangers.
Kink and Alternative Sexualities
I'm kink-aware and non-monogamy-affirming. If you're in BDSM or kink communities, or in any form of consensual non-monogamy, that should not be pathologized, and you shouldn't have to defend your identites from your own therapist.
FAQ
What is LGBTQ+ affirming therapy?
It means your identity isn't treated as a problem, a phase, or a variable to be managed. A queer-affirming therapist doesn't approach LGBTQ+ identities as inherently linked to distress. The work focuses on what you actually bring as a concern. For me specifically, it also means shared language and lived experience, not just a clinical stance of acceptance.
Do you work with trans and nonbinary clients?
Yes. I work with transgender, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming adults. My lens is gender-expansive and I believe you are the greatest expert about your own idenitites and experiences.
Do you work with queer couples and same-sex couples?
Yes. I work with couples across the full spectrum of gender and sexual identity, including same-sex couples, queer couples, and couples in non-monogamous or polyamorous relationships. Learn more about Relationship Therapy offerings.
Do I need to explain my identity before we start?
No. I'm a queer-identified therapist with years of experience working with LGBTQ+ adults, people in non-monogamous relationships, and kink communities. You don't need to spend session time on background education. We can get to work.
Do you work with people who are still figuring out their identity?
Yes. You don't need a clear label or a finished sense of who you are to start. Many people come to this work mid-discovery. That's a fine place to begin.
What states do you see clients in?
I offer affirming virtual therapy for LGBTQ+ adults in New York, Colorado, and New Jersey.
